CD-R or DAT?

i need something to mixdown to. what is the best format besides tape. basically i am thinking of getting a CD-R and putting a good converter in front of it and connecting digitally. any sugestions as to which CD-R to get? or should i mix to something else? is their any downside to CD-R? does it sound bad? i have seen a lot of studios doing rough mixes to CD-R.

Definitely not DAT!
I have hundreds of DAt tapes sitting around waiting to be transfered to CD.
I just can't keep a DAT deck working.

CD-R with a good converter is as good as any DAT.
Tape is fine, but rather expensive and more to deal with concerning calibration and tape machine maintanace.

I say mix to CDR.

Unless you get a 24-bit DAT machine, I'd just use CD-R.

Come to think of it, I'd *still* just use CD-R...

Untill I purchased my Masterlink I mastered to 1/4 inch tape. I own a high end Sony Dat and it sounds like absolute **** compared to tape or anything for that matter. The masterlink is a good option and sounds great especially of you use some good converters or digitally in if you are mixing ITB.
Dat id Dead
