Here for the gear

opening up some ORAM gear.

Hi guys, I own a s100 and a oram mws.
I bought the gear used and for a reasonable price.
to be honest - the components in both of these units are nothing esotheric at all when you take a closer look.
psu is built quite well, switches are rock solid, pots are on the cheap side and hard to turn, micpre ICs are ok but nothing special. (NE5534N in the s100, SSM2017 in the MWS). no transformers but some TL072, TL074 opamps in the EQ and output stage. Despite the different micpre ICs the layout of both units seem to be quite identical to me, so it should be possible to upgrade the S100 input stage with a SSM2017 or the successor SSM2019 IC.

On the other hand you´ll find these components in some highend vintage desks from the 80s, and I know some technicians who swear on the sound of an old Amek desk and are trying to rack some channelstrips.
for my opinion a midas venice sounds warmer, rounder and quieter, but I like my gear for its slightly rougher and edgier "cut-through" sound on drums for example. maybe that is it whats now marketed as "british sounding".

best, xlarge
