Quantec Yardstick ..

Anybody wrapped it around a lead voc and if so ... within what ganre ? How'd ya like it ?

Any other impressions are welcom ...

Havn't heard anything bad about these seemingly esoteric units. I just can't seem to locate one to go listen to and debating a small leap of faith rollz

Seen it, Ain't heard it.... It's small as hell for what it is supposed to do. I expected a 4 space but it's 1.

ecue...its actually as deep as it is tall..sounds amazing...weve sold 20+...works especially well with Sony DMXR100...as it only has AES I/O...some aux's on the Sony are Dig i/o only.

I took a large leap of faith with this unit, inspired by the RealAudio samples on the Quantec website and the complete lack of any marketing / sales B.S.

I now find it is my 'go to' reverb for vocals for more natural genres. I also have the TC M3000 which I like, but which is tinny and metallic in comparison with the Yardstick. No software verbs come close.

The downsides of the Quantec are that, as far as I know, its still 44/48khz only and the only i/o is digi AES. There are only a handful of algorithms and presets also.

HOWEVER - it sounds fantastic on anything I have tried - especially accoustic stringed instruments and voice. I especially like the chapel preset, with decay time modified to suit. Its just a case of blending exactly the right amount of wet return.

Theres also a infinity setting which is pretty cool.

hope that helps

That's exactly what inspired my intrest ... along with needing a killer vox verb, without having the $ yet to shell out for an M6000 ... will have to remain in lust paradise for the while.

WoW .... glad I didn't pick one up .... always thought the 3000 sounded natural .. just that for the $, it's got one overall sound that it does very well ... but that's it.

Won't bother me, especially if the algorythms have a distinct difference

yeah ... I figure if I can harness that spaitelness, it should wrap nicely around a lead vox.
We'll see ...... took the jump for one last night on Ebay ..... NEW ... in the Box

robwilliams, any chance of you sampling this into Altiverb and uploading to the audiease site? I don't believe anyone has done this with this unit yet. I asked Mike Thoten but I think he thought I was joking...

I absolutely love the reverbs from Quantec, much more than anything else except for the live chambers at Fantasy studios in Berkely California. which are unsurpassable IMO...
I've tried many other digital boxes and I have not found ANYTHING that comes close to the reverbs I can get out of a Quantec.
I use it for EVERY reverb duty I have...it excells in all areas, for all applications.
a true sleeper piece, in which only the people that are "in the know" can apprieciate(spelling?).
you will not be dissapointed using one of these, even as your ONLY verb.

yeah, their site sucks. I know...don't really give a **** though.

curious to hear how it compares to altiverb [which is hands down the best verb, sample dependant, that i have heard... at least the most natural.... aside from actual rooms themselves]

Well I must say .... I'm feeling pretty exhuberant and confident yuktyy that I jumped in the right direction ... especially after reading all these comments. Much appreciated

I figure I'll see/hear it in about a week and with any luck from euphoria a week after that Will be sure to share the glow

AJ -
You should click over to the Quantec site and check out their samples. I dare say if you close your eyes with a favorite set of monitors ... you may well think you're right in the room. Considering it's a download, I can't even imagine my reaction when I'm able to reach out and touch .... a control knob or two rollz

I futzed w/Altiverb for awhile ... In fact it was in my initial search for killer verb. Great idea, but damn ... I sure as hell couldn't use more than one efficiently as far as CPU power was concerned especially if I was about to encounter anything close to a half complicated mix with a decent amount af plugs !!! I n fact it was this experience that made me decide to become dependence free of verb plug ins. Perhaps I'll reconsider Altiverb when I upgrade from 500mhz.
Although .... with the arrival of a certain blue box ... I may never feel the need heh
