Where the heck did you get THAT from what he said??

I agree with his points - the only way to get into something (such as recording engineering) is to DO it, and you have to start from nothing. Just like being a musician.

He never suggested that I saw anywhere that it's supposed to be easy, or takes little work, or requires no quality.

EDIT: sorry if I went too far, maybe I misunderstood what you were saying. I'll take that last bit out now :-)

Don't sweat it. Anything past "ahhh you think it should be easy and obstacle-less" is elaboration on what will happen if it is too easy. Sorry
and, I got it from.....

talent is nurtured
life is short
Everyone has to deal with adversity, try not to take it personally, and move on past it, learn from it, but, keep it in the context of your community.

The way you do business either promotes the community of your peers and/or your customers on purpose or by accident, or, it undercuts the community of your industry.
Of course there are varying stages in between, but, with every interaction with customers and peers, you're either consciously helping or hurting your industry, whether you take responsibility for it or not, and if you take responsibility for it and calibrate your interactions to promote or better your industry, it will recover in any economy. If not, it could die.

I threw a MAJOR label A&R guy out ( asked him to stop many times and then asked him to leave) for playing basketball against the walls while other customers were in, in my common/lounge area, and his reply to that was to cut off business. Big baby.
His immediate reply was "do you know who I am? Do you know who my dad is?"
Do you know who my dad is, indeed.
You can't play basketball in the lounge.
