trying to decide on a second monitor reference pair...

I currently run ADAM A7's and KRK 6000's with a Hafler P3000. I hardly ever even reference the KRK's, not because I don't like them, but they are just a boxier sounding less clear in the midrange monitor, and lack bass even more than the ADAMs.

I'd like to find something I can pair with my Hafler that will give me a quick bass reference in the event that I need it (which is rare). I don't want to break the bank, and I'll likely hunt for something used over time considering its not an urgent need.

I see the Tannoy Precision 8 floating around, but I don't want to spend $1000 on a pair of secondary monitors.

Does anybody have suggestions for long lost 7-8 inch passive monitors I should keep my eye out for on ebay, craigslist, and GS classifieds?

Larger old BBC monitors. LS6a comes to mind. Give them a listen first, you might not like them, but they're great speakers.

The smaller BBC monitors (ahem LS3/5a) really lack low-end and sell for far more than they're worth (IMO).

Dude. Did I not see a post somewhere in which you said you had the passive Precision 6's? Because.... if you don't want them.., I'm looking for them!

Nope. I think I recently commented in a thread mentioning precision 6's though.

I'm definitely looking at the precision 8's. They just never pop up used.

I know, it's a sad fact. Probably because if you buy them, you love them.

Toa 280-ME. If they go for more than $100/pair on ebay you're getting ripped off.

(...although,any pair you can find will be >20 years old and I don't know whether replacement drivers are available.)

Imagine a Yamaha NS10M with at least another octave of bass extension, much cleaner high end, and the ability to tame some of that midrange honk.
