How much for a PT mix+?

Anyone have any idea as to how much a mix+ with an adat bridge is going for on the used market?

I've been abusing a digi001 for a couple years now and love the software, but want to have more channels of good converters and something I can get to run rock solid all the time (my001 will randomely error at the wrong times and the only thing i can do to stop it is disable the lightpipe and spidf ins, so im stuck using the 001 converters). Sooo I feel like I can do good work with the 001, but want to treat myself to something a little more reliable and more "pro". Plus 96k doesnt interest me at all since I dont need to be compatible with anyone else.

So anyone have any clue as to how much a basic used PT system is without converters? Anyone think prices might drop a lot in the near future? I know this is a horrible time to make this type of purchase, but even if digi stops supporting it I think I can still do good work.

The going rate for a Mix core on the street is $3200(which is about half of the street price for a used HD1). A used mixfarm is around $1600(I have seen lately the new HD Process cards for $2000). The Mixfarms are still selling. An Adta bridge will be around $700. Total is.......(Drum roll please!!!)....=Around $5500 give or take a few hundred dollars. Its still a big step up from a 001. If you think you are ready to swim with the sharks, than jump in the pool. I'd probably would just save up and get the HD1. In the end you will save more.

You might want to check the sales area at the Digi forum. That'll give you an idea of prices.

I'm not too worried about swimming the sharks. I figure some good converters at 48k mixing thru my trident will be good enough for awhile. I dont need to be compatible with other studios and really like working in the niche I'm in. So going with HD doesnt tempt me. As long as I can have a stable system with 16 channels of good I/0 with an 888 for running effects I'll be happy. Even if i went with HD id probably never use anything above 48k anyway.

That's what I have & keep telling myself..

But as I deal very much with acoustic instruments - I am starting to crave 96k...

But I need to make some money first before I get new gear, I kinda hit a $$$ brick wall.

Anyhow the system you describe is very cool for 'making do' I can assure you.

With a 'real desk' and sends you could skip the 888 for effects perhaps?

What converters are you looking at? Dont forget a good ext clock!

TCM300 is looking good..!!!.(baby M3000)

Go second hand on ALL OF IT for SURE!

Try to get an expansion chassis for those second hand Mix Farm bargains ahead....

Well I have been planning to pick up a radar project system since it was announced. But now as the time gets closer I'm thinking im really going to miss working in PT.

I havent taken any loans for the stuff I have now, so its just a matter of reminding myself I WILL be able to pay this back easily.

Sooo..... my plans are a used mix+ with an adat bridge with 1 nice set of converters (ie, lucid, apogee, mytek.... ive never really compared, but will before i buy) and some rme converters. Then an 888 to use with the kurzweil effects processor. My board doesnt have enough aux sends, plus I like being able to automate sends in PT.

I record mostly heavy rock stuff and 96k just isnt tempting me much. I feel like if i had a stable PT setup with some decent I/0 I'd be all set. I never even use enough plug ins to max out my G4, so some big PT setup doesnt interest me. I just like the software.

None of my clients look at the gear I have, so I dont need the latest and greatest name gear. I just want to have something stable that doesnt feel like a toy. Plus better converters wont hurt!

Dont forget that while tracking you can get an extra (4) 2 ch converters in via the 888/16's AES 24 bit i/o

So this might be cool

18 i/o Adat bridge
888
2 x 8 ch afordable converters.... RME?
1 x 2 ch converter like the Cranesong Hedd / Apogee PSX 100SE

Also most all digital FX can act as converters in 'bypass' so perhaps ypu could get by with one 8 ch device + FX + a high quality 2 ch unit....

Track Drum overheads via the best quality 2 c converters, then do every overdub with it, then mix back to PT with it, clock the rest of your gear with it (add a cheap WC distrabution amp) then marry it (no! Hang on a second! Thats not right...er uh...)

You get the picture...

What do you think you would miss from PT exactly, I am curious

Being able to edit like crazy, soundreplacer, occasionally autotune. I also like processing certain things, and if i were running my trident and radar, i wouldnt be able to automate any effects. Normally my main tracks... kick, snare, Oh's, bass, lead vox, ect, get real outboard eq's/compressors, but less important stuff still get plug ins.

I guess it comes down to feeling like I lose control going with a radar and unautomated desk.
