That one tape that just won't bake right

So I have this one 2" Ampex 456 (of course, the most problematic) reel from around 1979 that just won't behave right, even after it's second round in the oven @ 50c for a good 12 hours. It is a part of a much larger catalogue of very well recorded and preserved material, none of which is giving me the same problem. Gobs and gobs of sticky shed, I can't even get past the first 15 seconds of tape.... Any alternate routes / temperatures, etc? I don't want to just keep baking this thing over and over; a little concerned about what to do next... anyone?
