what would you do? mics + pre's for drums?

ok, i'm looking to try something new on my session tonight!! i have some of my own favorite combo's, but i'm curious as to what you gearslutz out there would use for a drum session. Here's what i'm working with:

• AVALON - 737 (3)
• UNIVERSAL AUDIO - 610 (2)
• UNIVERSAL AUDIO - 1176
• VINTECH AUDIO - DUAL 72 - 2 CHANNEL PREAMP
• FOCUSRITE - ISA 428 4 CHANNEL PREAMP (2)
• ART VLA - COMPRESSOR

I love C12's or 414's on Toms. Give it a shot.

Try a beta58 on the snare. I'm no longer a 57 fan for snares.

love 414's for my toms...surprised by your snare choice! i'll give it a shot tho, and i'll try it w/737 so i can sculpt it a bit....i'm never really happy w/ the 57 either. Thinking about boiling out the transformer on one of em, there's a bunch lying around here that rarely get used.

Call me old-fashioned, but I'd just stick to something tried-and-true. D112 on kick, Beta 57 on snare, 421s on toms (maybe the RE20 on the floor tom), KSM44s in cardioid for overheads and 414s in omni at knee level about 10-15 feet back for rooms.

If you want to get a bit more creative, I think an RE20 sounds really cool on kick sometimes, especially for smaller bass drums or when you want a more jazzy sound. The 414's on toms is another cool idea.
