The NS-10s were designed to be used with Yamaha hifi amps. Do yourself a favor and trade whatever it is you have right now for something like this:

Yes. This is the right model reference. I’ve got it paired with a couple of NS10.

If you run NS-10's with clean power like a Bryston, you can push them pretty loud. I saw it all the time in big studios working on hip hop and the woofers looked like they're going to pop out of the NS-10's they were banging it so loud. Never blew them though.

OK, the question to me is, why? What for? Can you not listen to music at "normal" levels? Will the music get better when played loud..?

When you raise the volume to unrealistic levels, inevitably, distortion increases. This results in an inaccurate monitoring situation which kind of defeats the purpose.

The NS-10s were designed as hifi speakers to sit on bookshelves, not to simulate dance venues.

Anyway...

This was the engineer listening at those levels. Not me.

Hi, I no longer have them but TS10 is great sub for money and it sure works with NS10 upon setting in your room...

I'm not a PX3 user, but I see it has a tuning section (eq?) . Try to eq them at your taste and if you can run room measurement it could be even better

Class D Amp for NS-10M

Hi,
I power my NS-10M Studio with SMSL SA-98E.
Those are cheap class D amp with 2x160W.
To me the combination sounds really good and it takes very little space on my desk.

But I just found this thread and started to ask myself whether a "proper" amp would give me even better result.

Is there anybody who had the chance top compare some class D amp with the others classic amps ?

Can’t recall if I replied to this thread at some point.

That said, having lots of power on tap to leave a mess
of headroom works well with any speakers.

That calls for BIG transformers, and large enough
caps in the power supply to handle demand during
transients.

Transients, especially at lower frequencies are what
create clipping that can damage drivers.

A Bryston 4B powers these very well, and any decent
low impedance wire should work well.

I was a bit surprised at the change from Monster 8 gauge to Kimber 8TC.

It was quite audible, and a definite improvement
in my system.

Perreaux amps sound very good with these, and my friend’s Haffler 2200 (?) sounded fine.

These monitors for me, are helpful with assessing
midrange, and balances.

So is an Auratone.

Some people swear at the NS 10, some swear by them.

Go with your ears over internet advice🙂

Last two weeks I have been powering CLA10's with CLA-100 amp. I had both CLA-100 and CLA-200 here for a while but decided to go with 100. I have amp volume set to 11 o'clock and can't hear myself going louder than that. So it has more than enough power for my room.

My next purchase will probably be a sub for these. Maybe Yamaha HS8S.
