Well let me ask two qestions then.

1) Given the usual recording contract splits, not sure what the split between artist and label is in the UK and Europe, how much do you think the artist's share would be using the typical arrangements?

2) Now, what do you think would be a fair split?

That depends on whether I'm acting as the Artist or the Label! heh

Ok, what would fair for the label's share and what would be fair for the artist's share?

Most splits average out to 50 percent for the label and 50 percent for the artist/composer after expenses.

All of the cryptic language based on gross income and recoupment is a smokescreen to allow label execs., managers and lawyers to make deals appear to be something other than what they really are.

Yeah, but here there are no major expenses and usu the artist has to pay for all the costs, takes all the risks, and ends up in debt to the label company store. To me, it would seem a 60/40 split would be more fair with the artist getting the 60 percent.

Perhaps, the artist should get all of it, since Apple is effectively acting in the position of a record co distributor. In other words, the old label is not doing anything, why should they get anything?

Does anyone knpw if the labels paid Apple to be on their service or did Apple pay some kind of advance to the labels for some limited rights. If Apple made advance payments, how much will go to the artists?

I did say AFTER expenses!

Any distributor, electronic or otherwise should be making half of the total investment in a title in order to deserve half the net profit from that title.
