Good mic for GR MP2nv

I just recently purchased the GR MP2nv and am loving it. Now I need to find a vocal mic that goes well with it and my Rosetta. I've heard the Brauner Phantom C is a good match. The valvet voice also looks pretty nice. I've also been hearing good things about Soundelux Mics specificaly the iFEt, U99 and U195 (I can't afford the big one). I've also heard great things about the Lawson Mics. Because I am unable to access any of these brands through my local dealer a test drive is not possible. Has anyone out there tried one of these mics with this pre? Any other mics that you think might work well in this chain.Thanks.

I've tried all the ones you've mentioned with the NV. They all work great in the right application. I'm not sure if anyone can tell you anything much further than that, especially if you are thinking about the mics in vocal applications which gets extremely subjective depending on what the voice actually sounds like, and the preference of the production team. For instruments I think there is more common ground. Of the ones you mentioned I personally think the iFET7 is the most overall versatile that is great on most things, and always way above average on the rest. You never know though, your voice might sound the best with a SM-57 through the NV (or maybe not).

Is the 900 that really Deco looking phantom powered tube mic? I've always assumed it would have that under-powered tube sound... but i never met anyone who actually had used one.

I've got the 800, as well as the UM70. The 800 is pretty cool looking too - kind of like an egg laid by an android ostritch. Or something the Russians would have orbited in the 1950's. Don't use it that much, though, as it's a little bright for my taste.

I too have been eyeing a "go to" vocal mic. Yes we should have more than one but isn't there a safe choice, especially to match up with such a hot preamp as the GR MP2NV? Contenders for the home hobbyist:

--Soundelux E47 or ELUX 251
--Lawson L47MP or L251
--Brauner Valvet Voice
--Brauner Phantom
--Manley Reference Cardiod

As you can see, I am having an idenitiy problem because I should figure out whether I want to go 47 or 251, two very different approaches.

Seems that finding a good mic for the MP NV is a common problem .

I did the same thing and got the 'good' mic pre first (actually it's great)--now I need a mic to do it justice.

I'm lookin at the AT4060 and the iFET7, as a go-to vox mic.

The sibilance warnings for the U195 have me a little nervous.

If I got the 4060, then there would be a Sheops or a T.H.E. or a distressor in the nearer future. But if the iFET is THAT nice....................... such troubles.

Wish I could afford the 47 or 251, but such is life.

Well, all I have right now is the KSM-44. Insert either La-2a or RNC , judicious eq and I'm smilin-then again, I don't know any better!

Carry on
