Hey guys in the US - any luck with iTunes 4 shopping?

New ipods and itunes download service happened today.

Download part only available to US folks, just wondered if you guys had had any luck.

I've played around with it, it has all the makings of something rather cool.

For some reason I sat there wishing I could download an Oscar Peterson track I hadn't heard for years. I guess that's the point.

Anyway, remains to be seen how quick they manage to make it global. Apple have NO track record of EVER making something anything more than US-centric, as their otherwise cool iPhoto service shows.

It all looks great on my end - except of course if you want an interesting artist - the major labels don't seem to have many. I am tempted to buy some exclusive Flaming Lips tracks. But I haven't yet. It all seems work impressively though. I'm optimistic. But how will independent music get on this bandwagon?

At least there's now a bandwagon!

Here's hoping. I think that the indies will be knocking on Apple's door now they know it works, they have nothing to lose! (and not as much red tape as the majors)

I can't believe I fell to temptation and downloaded/installed this thing.
It's definately having some "issues" with the Digi Core Audio driver. In short, iTunes won't play through the 192I/O. In fact, when you try to start a song, you get the "spinning beach ball" and you freeze up. A "force quit" is my only remedy.
Hey Digi, are you guys aware of this yet? I know some folks on here are complaining about the latest driver(1.1) but I've had no issues with it, atleast not until iTunes 4 side-swiped me.
Anyone else??

You gotta have downloaded the new version of quicktime which has aac support. Can't imagine digi have anything to dig aac in their drivers.

You're right, iTunes 4 doesn't work with the CoreAudio driver. It's fixed in v1.2 of the driver (I just got iTunes 4 today myself), I'll see about getting it posted in the next few days.

Thanks,
-Ted

Don't all us pros keep the consumer stuff on one computer and the studio computer free of anything that isn't essential to the session?

If you don't - start now.

Or at least have a boot disk for serious work and another one for everything else.

One must have a personal computer for such indulgences. Keep the main computer free of anything but ProTools and maybe Logic or Reason or Live or....
.....wait the computers getting messy again already.
