Oh, Alan's not a bad guy - you just have to understand why does things the way he does. He knows the market (which is why he does things the way he does)...

Thanks Dave!!!!

I have not forgot the power supply for the "A" Range, so hang tight. I am waiting for an answer from Ted.

Alan, what took you so long to find us?! (just kidding)

Good to see you here.
Hope things are going great for everybody on the "team".

Chris

P.S. If "market" includes the stock market we'd like some tips!

Tips..Hmmm don't bet on the horses!

Good to be here. I am finding my way all over the place. We are very busy right now. Its been interesting with the news between Stephen and myself. It seems that has been the hot topic for the last week. That to will pass until we get the mic out.

What I am excited about is the release of the VTB-1. I know everyone seems focused on the RNP "Really Nic Micpre", but like everything else, it too is just a flavor. What excites me is that the VTB-1 is two flavors and a whole lot more features. Of course that flavor has to be what you are looking for, but I can tell you it sounds very good. We compared it against a pretty well know and expensive pre over the weekend.

Using the same cables, the VTB-1 opened up the mic we were using and made the more expensive box sound almost thin. Everyone was quite impressed, but we will let the users out there be the judge.

We come in at $179.00, less than half the price of the RNP, but the RNP is dual channel. So, things should get interesting.

see you on the boards....

Does the final design starve the plate on the tube, or did you in fact go for high voltage? An iron in the signal chain?

Bear
Bear,

It is a starved tube design at 70V, not 300, but the idea was to use the tube as a feature and not have it in the circuit all the time.

The unit is a class A/B solid state front end design. The tube is inserted before the output, so it is a blend. As I said, it is very useful for bass and guitar DI when you want varying levels of distortion, and it does the job in getting a little air or warmth into the vocals. It is not dependant on the output gain, so you do not alter your input and ouput gain stages. When the blend is in the SS position, it simply is not in the circuit, and no matter how much tube you add, it does not alter the gain as all the other units who use the tube in the output section do.

I know how people feel about starved tube designs, but we are doing it differently than others, which is why it works the way we do it. Again, for $179.00, the unit is very feature heavy, and does sound very good. Once you understand what we did, you can see that we did it differently...and that is why this design works

Absolutely!

Keep in mind, however, that my viewpoint will be that of a moderately advanced beginner.
Ease of use is always a plus for us folks,
and this one will definitely be easier than programming a VCR. This should be a fine learning tool as you can always go safe with the solid state path first before adding any 2nd order tube
harmonics for enhancement.
