Hi, I'm no Dave M, but I can say that the Edge has said in many interviews that his guitar is recorded wet (and actually is treated very little once recorded). That's mostly because most of his treatments are applied before the amplifier (in particular the delay).

I would imagine thought, that in U2's lengthy career there must be some exceptions to that

A very old bump but i'm surprised to hear that the vox was though a sm58! they sound a lot more ...smoother? on the record than a 58. Then again, the whole album sounds very 'round' and warm.
