buying a single monitor...

so i was wondering if there is any point in my buying a single monitor?

would it be useful for checking mono mixes? or does one just buy a single because they're either missing a speaker or need extra for surround applications?

Usually because one was damaged and they need a replacement rather than buying a new pair. Single, used studio monitors usually sell for next to nothing because of the whole issue of "matching".

nothing wrong with buying the pair and using one for mono mixes. having the other in reserve in case you want an auxilary point of stereo reference down the road.
