question about Euphonix's controllers

i do realise that there have already been a thread or two about this, but this was a while ago and am wondering if maybe opinions have changed, etc..

on mixing the last project i have come to the conclusion that the mouse can actually cause confusion after a while - live automation is almost impossible and getting the levels right is very cumbersome.

i was wondering if anyone has had good experiences with Euphonix's MC Mix surphace? any particular problems with Logic 8? is this controller worth its salt?

many thanks, i'd really appreciate the advice.

Nick

With Logic; Both MC Control and MC Mix have been amazing for me in our room. Its definitely a BREEZE to automate any parameters you want.

Once you jump the learning curve, which is not too high at all, you'll be moving all over the place with these controllers. They definitely have the best resolution of any controller in this price range, and they really don't ever give me issues. If they do, I just re-boot the Eucon software and all is well.

Hi, If you've got the dough, try one of these

Smart AV

I've been using a 32 fader setup with Logic and ProTools, a great console indeed!

ah yes, i know all about that. alas the budget is tight, and at the moment i am merely speculating/perving over the prospect of a nice little controller. one of those situation where you REALLY want to look before you leap!

I had the Euphonix back when it was still fresh........it stank......I'm hoping by now things have ironed out with it......I would definately get my hands on it first before handing over the dough!

things are smooth sailing since two updates back, i use mc mix

integration in logic is sick

i like it also for pt and live but its not the euphonics protocol (hui/mackie repectively)

its just fantastic riding faders and doing automation with real faders

plus the ethernet conection gives much more resolution of faders on two axis i mean both volume and per second its updated...

question about Euphonix's controllers - HELP!

Hello,

I just got the MC Control arrived. But I am having troubles starting
up Logic (8.0.2) after I installed the software for the Euphonix MC Control.
Logic crashes at the splash-screen exactly when it shows "Starting
up EuCon Support". When I remove EU Control Software everything is
back to normal again.

I tried software version 1.2.1 & 1.2.4 with firmware update but the
problem remains.

Please, somebody tell me what I can do in order to use this product
with Logic, because now it is completely useless to me :(

I think these are great little controlers, had no problems here, had mine for about 6 months or so now (mix and control) both run fin with logic and dp, haven't used them with pro tools so cant comment on that. The only thing I've found i have to watch is when controling plugins the quicker you turn the knob the the more you alter the plugs parameter even if you only move it the same distance as you did slowly? Bit weird but once you get used to it you don't really notice. That and the jog wheel can catch sometimes. Still take it over the mackie for integration. Very happy with mine

I've installed the eucon workstation so i doubt thats it but I remember when I first installed it I had to repair my disk permitions to get it to run properly. May be worth a try?

Are you running an intel or g5?

Im on a g5 still.

The only thing I can think of is repairing you're disk permisions, have you had a chance to try it? If that doesn't work check the support section on the euphonix site. Might be an intel thing but I doubt it.

Are you running it of a router/ethernet switch or straight into the comp. I'm using a ethernet switch (required for more than one unit) so if you're using one it might be an issue with that? I remember reading in the manual something about using different lan cables with different macs. Might be worth a glance through just to check.

Yes . I'm using Swich too, but I also tried connecting it directly without swich and is the same. I changed the cables (cros/normal) and that did not work...
I wrote to Euphonix support and still waiting for a respond.

I have the same problem with logic 8.02. logic crashes on startup, when eucon support is loaded. however, it works when using logic 8.00.
i will try to repair disk permissions, maybe that works...

Hi, what do you think is better to catch at first for easy mixing with Logic, 2 mc mix or 1 mc control +1 mc mix ?
I rarely go over 32 tracks, and don't know if Mc control really is indispensable at first.

Thanks for your advices.

I use an mc mix here with cubase 4.5 - works very well, I don't have any problems at all.

In a past years I work with Nuendo on PC and when my Logic now don't start with MC Control, probably I will buy a Nuendo for OSX.

well, obviously its not that mc control or mc mix doesnt work with logic in general. it seems to be a user specific problem and you should get in touch with their support to help you out.

logic and mc mix is super solid and works amazing over here

yes, very true! to be fair and honest, in my case the machine it doesn't work with logic 8.02 is an efi-x machine, not a real mac. so that could be the culprit here. and somehow I just don't dare calling support for that.

on my macbook pro mid 2007 it works very well along with logic 8.02

well, that should put out any doubt in your mind as to what is the problem here.
