SOS: Gear upgrades/scaling back

Hello All:

Well for the last month I've been reading/ searching the boards and I'm more confused now then before

Here's the dilemma:

I currently have two DAW setups, a whole bunch or hardware and a console. I lost my space about a year ago, and have everything setup in a 2nd bedroom in our town house.

One DAW is a G4 with PTMIX24 setup and a 888, the other which is mainly for composition is a Quad G5 with a MOTU HD192 and 24io. I currently use the 24mix for mix down out of the console.

I'm trying to decide (and already posted for sale) if I should upgrade the PT set up to an HD1 and sell off the MOTU gear. I mainly work in DP and Logic, but PT8 seems tempting and it is a standard (I do some session work as well).

I'm leaning towards keeping the console, I use it for all my modules and keys, and it has a master section so I wouldn't need summer, or central station type thing.

thoughts? and thanks!

I've been a Pro Tools user for many years and recently had a friend join my studio who brought with him a Logic setup. I must say that I instantly understood the distinction between PT being a tracking/editing behemoth and Logic being a producer/songwriter tool. Even with PT8, I still feel that Logic has the upperhand in composition.

That being said, I still prefer using PT for personal DAW comfort, and I don't trust the metering in Logic and our associated hardware. And PT totally blows away Logic for tracking/editing still, especially with their new comping method. I have done some tracking in Logic (less than ten sessions) and don't hate it, but I have a definite preference.

So based on what you've written so far, I'd suggest keeping a powerful Logic rig if you have to whittle it down to one. It's all about your own personal workflow, though.

Good luck!
