strange phase isues

hello

i recorded an acoustic guitar vocal track.

left bottem guitar < km 184 directed left
hole of guitar < r92 very close
12th fred < mk 012 oktava hyper cardroid

and vocal < brauner phantom on the right ( put the mic a bit down and directed it angle up, to avoid the guitar sound)

so when i play all 3 tracks of guitar in mix i got a solid sound and no phase problems,

BUT in the midle of the song there is a vocal space and in that vocal track i got some guitar sound, just a little, but when i mute it, i get a fuller guitar mix, when i put the vocal track back on, the low 500hz gets a little lesss again and is then more airy. reverb situation?

i dont get this at all, cause the vocal (brauner mic) is good on the right out of reach of the other mics. i must say the 3 guitar mics are closer to eachoher (no problem there)

why is that brauner bugging me???? i tought to create phase, u need to put 2mics close to eachother, is it also possible u create phase to reverb situations during the recordings???

now i work in cubase and put the vocaltrack 2.00 early and my problem is fixed. for the guitar....but then the vocal track is falling out more on places where the vocal is less loud....phase again????

what should i do? and why does it do that? im very curious about this

many greetz Peter

peter,

mics don't have to be very near each other to phase. if they're generally pointing towards each other. you will get cancellations of some degree. eg: just like the overhead and kick drum mics could be slightly out of phase from each other.

my opinion is you're using too many mics.

i pushed 3k on the ribbon and it sound better now
any sugestion on mic placement, using less mics?

i was thinking to do a mix just with R92 and brauner. see what it does.

you should try it and see what it sounds like...could be good.

i would do just a standard "near the hole technique" with just the km184 but very close to the guitar. you'll have to experiment with exact placement so it doesn't sound too boomy or muddy. your goal would be to get mostly guitar in that mic. closer in > less vocal bleed, further out > more vocal bleed.

haven't used the r92 or mk012.
