An EL Distressor. Okay, first I listened to one at NAMM (to the extent that's even possible in a crowded hall) and I listened to the presentation as well. Then I bought a used one (mint.)

I read about the Voxengo Elephant v3 here. Then I went and downloaded the trial, and I had to buy it the next day or so afterward. Sometimes you try something and you just know that you can't go back to the way things were before.

Huge Help Thanks

As some already said ,being a personal home studio and particularly because of my location which is 230 mi. from the nearest source for pro audio gear I have relied greatly on GS for every purchase and a wealth of engineering tips since finding the forum.. So a good time to say -- many, many thanks, to all the pros for taking the time to share the info and expertise !!! Kev

Two 512c's in a 6B
Royer R121

I've bought a few things since I got into music (instruments, mics, gear etc). But these two pieces are the only pieces of gear that I have never once regretted buying. I never heard them before buying either, just listened to opinions on here. Thanks dudes! heh

I bought 3 pieces of cheap equipment because of gearslutz.

SM57 cos everyone recommends the arse off of it. It's probably the best mic i own now and is my 1st choice for most sound sources that i record.

M-Audio DMP3 which is great.

I also bought an ART phantom III power supply based on one guy's recommendation which doesnt ****ING WORK!

So 2 out of 3 aint bad. If it's something that everyone seems to think highly of, chances are it's gonna be pretty good.

Although conversely, i also own 2 mics that ppl here mostly hate, the mxl 2001 and the AKG C1000s, neither of which are quite as bad as most people would have you believe. Even with the SM57, the mxl is still my first choice for various percussive sounds and clean/lead gtr amp.

Been busy in a relatively short amount of time, I think. Gearslutz has been very useful in balancing my own situation with the impressions/ advice of others (always with a grain of salt, of course.) There is no replacement for personal experience, and there are so many ways to make things work.

For me, part one of putting together a little home setup was to acquire knowledge and the most serviceable gear I could afford - easy to get carried away/stuck with the gear sluttery, and damn it's fun. So many genuinely passionate people, and you gotta have a little antenna up to catch the agendas.

Part two is moving forward and putting part one into practice. Aside from the gear convo, this forum is a tremendous wealth of practical tips, tricks and techniques - a hell of a lot of great stories, too! I have a very warm spot for the people who take the time to respond thoughtfully to questions with no dfegading about. It's great to see so many people who love music as much as I do.. Big ups to you all!

Who else cracked up the first time they saw this thing (usually unloading on the word "Behringer"? dfegad

Stay thirsty, my friends!

I wanted high end conversion for a while. Thought I was going to go with 2 Rosetta 800's or even possibly go even higher for the AD series stuff. However, I think Kenny Goia got me onto my Lynx Aurora16's from a test he did and posted on here and I love them.

Also, I was going to go with a Royer R121, before starting to see more and more love for the AEA stuff. Saw someone getting rid of their R92 and traded my Duende Mini for it.

I've been happy with the decisions I've made thus far thanks to GS.

Really helped me push me over the edge on buying the Palmer pdi-03. What an awesome unit it is too. When I bought my Fatso a few years ago, the conversation with Dave Derr was key in buying that.

I used to have the Yamaha 01v96v2 via M-Lan and Yamahas HS80m. After almost 2 years doing working with it i had the chance to listen to my monitors and room trough the DUET. I found the apogee Duet would be a big improvement concerning ADDA, so i changed the Whole set up of my studio.
I have to buy in the states and pay shipping to Chile, so there is no choice for trying before buying for me. This Forum has been very helpful.

Things i bought:

Trade an M-Box and a NT-2 here for a GROOVE TUBES GT67 (i love this mic)

I thing i have keepers, they work as good as people said. Thanx to all the GEARSLUTZ!!!
