Is moving from an A80 To an A812 A worthwhile upgrade?

I have a very nice A80MK2 VU machine and am very happy with it. I have been offered an A812 that looks very nice also, do you think that it is worth changing over? It wouldnt cost me much, how does the sound of the two machines compare?

Your A80 is a very good machine. The A812 runs 12" reels and has the newer phase correct electronics from the A810 series. A812 also has electronic alignment with memory. I would not change to the A812 since I do not believe it is a step up for you.

In Studer's line up, an A80 was a recording studio machine and an A812 was part of the newer less expensive broadcast machine lineup.
