should i be hearing white noise from my studio monitors

total noob question...

when i place my ear close to the tweeter on both my powered HS80M monitors, should i be hearing a faint white noise/ static?

i can't hear it when im sitting back in my chair mixing away , and i wouldn't describe it as a hum...

is this normal ? ground loop? lack of sleep ?

What kind of speaker cables are you using?

Mine have done that since I got them 2 years ago. Doesn't bother me. What did bother me is when I fired up my external hard drive, I could hear it through the moniters. I fixed that problem by making sure the HD and the monitors weren't sharing the same plug strip.

I use Mogami BTW...

I have the same problem , just bought these speakers and they are making a faint whitenoise sound on their own with no audio plugged in .

As long as the white noise you're hearing isn't ocean sounds or wind chimes it'll be ok.

If you have to get really close to hear the noise it is perfectly normal.
No electric circuit is perfectly noise free and that includes the amps in your speakers.
