Patchbay Help

I am unfamiliar with how patchbay's really work and wanted to gauge if individuals here thought it would be a good/bad idea.

I have..
(2) Mytek 8x192's Converters = 16 channels
(1) Digi 003+ = 8 channels
(1) Lynx AES16-SRC = 16 channels
(12) Preamps (API, Purple, GR, LaC., A-Designs, etc)
(1) Tech 21 Rack Sansamp
(1) Mogami Snake = 20 x 4
(1) DBX 160A

Currently I run the Mytek to the Lynx AES16 through the AES db26 to db25 connections --> using Cubase as the DAW

The Digi 003+ is run firewire, but I'm getting the ADAT card to link it to the Mytek's as well --> in order to use pro tools when needed

Should I setup the converters through the patch?

I want the patchbay to have my snake linked to the preamps in's, and then the preamp out's to the mytek in's...I also want the digi in's patched so that I can send the pre's hooked to the mytek to the digi when need be with a few simple patches, is this a good solution? (all connections will be half-normalled, with the exception of the compressor)

I want the convenience of being able to patch whatever microphone with different pre's without leaving my chair to unplug something. I also want to be able to run cubase, or protools depending on whatever project i'm working on.

Any suggestions as to what is a best solution would be appreciated.

The thing with mic amps and TT or TRS patchbays is phantom power. If you move patch cables with +48v on then your going to fry something. If you're certain that you are diligent enough to switch off the +48v then no problem. Alternatively get an XLR bay for your mic lines. You won't have any trouble with that.

My big question is why you have a 003 when you have the fantastic converters from Mytek etc. and record to Cubase?

Oh, and do a search. This has been covered to death here.
