DigiMax D8 - How to add compression to a channel

I recently purchased a Presonus DigiMax D8, to add eight more mic inputs to my Pro Tools LE 8 system. I'm going into my Digi002 through the ADAT lightpipe connection. What I would like to do is patch in hardware compression just after the mic pre of a given channel, but it seems to me that there's no obvious way of doing so if I'm using the lightpipe connection.

Am I missing something, or is that simply a limitation of the D8?

as the D8 is mic input only and no inserts, you're unable to do this.

You could go mic into D8, analog out into your compressor, out of the compressor and into a Line input on the 002. But then you're using Digi's converters instead of the Presonus.

Can you take the D8 back and get a Digimax FS instead? It has both inserts and line inputs so you have many more options for putting comp/eq/fx between the pre and the a/d converter.

You can do this while still using the other channels thru ADAT, right? Or am I reading Presonus's manual and diagrams wrong?
