Equpiment help! API 2500? 1176?

Help. I'm currently working on two projects. 1 a new album buy a live dance rock band (think tv on the radio/soulwax/LCD soundysytem) and 2 an electro album made for clubs (sebastian, 2 many dj's).

My problem is that everything sounds like it's in a box. A smaller frame that other records I like/play. By frame I mean not as high/deep and wide.

Here is my equipment list:

RME 400
Digi 002
Macbook Pro
UAD 1 (1176, fairchild, 88RS etc)
Thermionic Culture Rooster
TL Audio EQ2
Mackie 1604
Genelec 8020
Prophet 5
Korg MS 10
Roland 303

Now I have around £3500 to spend and i'm really confused how it will be best used.

I have tried the following:
2 bus compression:
API 2500 this rocks, sparkles and glues.
Thermionic Phoenix: great sound, needed tightening on the 2bus with say the API.
Cranesong STC 8: nice but not rugged enough for me personally.

Apogee rosetta 200. i didn't notice a huge difference between this and the RME, it certainly wasn't night and day as some suggest.

my question is, how would you spend the money to improve the sound?
