On your elcos, are you gonna crimp or solder or both? How are you gonna mount the elcos in your console?

Also, for the rack to patchbay I/O, I'm thinking of going 12 in and 12 out on one 90 pin elco (and the same on another) instead of going 24 in on one elco and 24 out on another elco. 12 in and 12 out seems like the better way to do it but I was curious as to your opinion on the matter. 12 in and 12 out on two seperate elcos or 24 in on one elco and 24 out on the other? Any thoughts?

Also, as far as the rest of the console (and patchbay setup too, I guess) is concerned, do you think it's best to go with 90 pin elcos (to get 24 channels in one connector) or to split the job up and use more, smaller pin elcos? By the way, what kind of pinout layout were/are you planning on using?

As I've been pondering all of this new connection stuff, I've also been considering how to best incorporate my outboard preamps into all of this. It would be great if there was a way to run my 24 channel mic input snake/box into the console as normal (all live room mics still running through it instead of directly to an outboard preamp) and somehow use the patchbay to bypass the MCI preamp and go into an outboard preamp and then back into the channel strip, post MCI preamp.

I'm sure somebody has done this at some point. How'd you do it?

By the way, anybody got an ingenious (ie. not the good old fashioned way) method for tracking down cold solders in the patch bay?

Monkey,

By the way, were you planning on removing all of the Molex on your board or keeping it as is?

Year old bump. I've got questions going on in the MCI recording forum as well but figured I'd see if anybody had any responses to my most "recent" post(s) in this thread?

Yeah, still steadily cranking away at it. I'm replacing all of the punchblocks over the next few weeks.
