Echoplex, JamMan software or hardware equivalents.

Last night at the Boston ICA I saw the Theo Beckman and Ben Monder Duo. Nice music.

I don't have much experience with hardware delay boxes and have used delay only sparingly. I've never been much impressed by live uses that I've seen with these boxes; but, last night the Theo Beckman used the JamMan and the Gibson Echoplex to fantastic effect with real time adjustments, both as a looping machine and vocal enhancements.

I'm wondering if there are software equivalents to these machines, not necessarily for 'live' use but that can get the same kind of dynamic manipulation?

Also, can hardware boxes like the Eclipse, or some of the current Lexicon boxes like the MPX 500 be manipulated in the same way?
