This new album is amazing!! Given the choice of Frusciante's back catalogue or the Chilli's I would go for Frusciante every time

Not to do down the Chilli's mind you!!

yes. agreed, sometimes you want these guys to bring to the table what they do, especially Marr.

HEADWERKIN. yea the Moog stuff is pricey, but it sounds good, I'd try some old cheap keyboard with strings and flutes and run them through something with a vibe, like a MOOG "SOMETHING" , or some old guitar pedals.

KOZSAK- well, the chili's and John grew up on all that old funk stuff, George Clinton produced "freaky Styley", but to continue trying to be funk
guys after 25 years.... these guys aren't 20 years old anymore, and the whole slap bass - funk thing has pretty fiddled away (for white boys, mind you). I like to see the chili's get away from that stuff and start writing cooler material, even nastier rock if they have to!

MR.HEADPHONES- YESS!! his first albulm is still my favorite.
music like that is where's it's at. Only Jimi hendrix and Captain Beefheart
have ever made me feel laike that, and john has joined that list.
Absolutely beautiful music, once you hear this type of stuff, everything else seems sooo useless as a form of expression.
CHEERS!

SKYLAR20.
cURTAINS IS AN awesome albulm, agreed!

Got that right!

Anyone who can sing 'your pussy is glued to a building on fire' with such intent deserves some sort of respect heh

Looking forward to checking out this one.

John really has Hendrix nailed tone wise. The solo towards the end of "unreachable" sounds exactly like Hendrix on Electric ladyland "1983 A merman I should turn to be"..... Dead on. Love the song. Hard panned vocals! Very psychedelic sounds. Good stuff.

Before the beginning

I like the snare effect. Is that just a really long space echo/delay with a hell of a lot of pre-delay? I wonder what was used

It's funny. When reading the Tape Op recommendation
of this recording this month I was rather dismissive...

Before the Beginning this guitar tone and composition kills me!
After the Ending - artistic, creative, sublime and psychedelic - YES.
Unreachable... love the vox in this!

He covers Song to the Siren which was made famous
by This Mortal Coil/Elizabeth Fraser covering a Tim Buckley
song... (see my sig).

This is an AMAZING accomplishment... congrats, Mr Frusciante!

I believe I could achieve this via the Control Processor and a MIDI-to-CV converter, but I'm thinking something like a Nord Modular (in particular the MicroModular which can be had for a few hundred US$ on eBay) would be more ideal.

My other idea was to build enough modules from a kit, etc. if anyone knows of a good one available?

Cheers, Ben.
I play bass guitar through a 'modular' of 'foogers and others, with an MP201 as my main controller. If you're not familiar with the MP201, I'd recommend looking it up- it might be right up your alley as it has MIDI and CV functionality (midi sync your lfo's and whatnot), and it puts a lot of control at your feet while your hands are busy playing the guitar.

Im familiar with Frusciante by name and RHCP only. The guitar+modular thing interests me, I'll have to check out some of his solo work.

Sometimes it sounds like he invented guitar rock, and so much more. This one is a gem, as are all of his recordings, IMO.

My favorite rock guitar player of all time.
