Technique for drum sampling

What is the best technique for meshing drum samples with the real drum tracks?

I read some Dave Pensado threads and he says he takes samples from cds, like No Doubt, Hella Good, and then places them by hand.

This makes me wonder how he achieves convincing 16th notes, rolls, and flams?

I've heard you can pitch shift left stick strokes down a couple cents for convincing results, and you can always edit a flam, but what about rolls? And the tonal changes from dynamics??

Thanks,
Jeff Braun
