Soundtracs PC Midi problem connector

I have a problem on one channel where I have a cable inserted into the tape input. The meter bridge registers the incoming audio but I have to push down or wiggle the connector before it is audible. Does this sound familiar?

Can anyone shed some light on the procedure involved in fixing a loose balanced input? sounds like a failing contact? i've taken out the channel but I'm not sure where to begin...

I did search this topic but unfortunately didn't find anything.

Did you try spraying it with a suitable product such as Deoxit or Servisol? That often does the job. Its a modular desk so the inside is easely accessible. It might also be that the contact is slightly bent. NB that the ins/ outs of the PC Midi are not balanced, just wired for +4 or -10 operation on the tip and sleeve.
In the UK, the place to go for Soundtracs servicing is studiosystems.co.uk. Tim who runs it is a great guy and very helpful.

The connectors are mounted on a PC board. There could be a bad solder joint. I would pull the questionable channel and inspect the solder joints. If you have it wired for balanced input, that is probably your problem.
