What tape are you using? I've heard BobC only uses the black nichiban gaffa.

Kleenex sounds warmer, which may account for some of the sonic differences in US vs European productions.

I thought that the studio version didn't need tissue over the tweeter. I thought that this trick was only for the older version, am I wrong?

You are right and I guess this is another NS10 sarcasm thread which probably will get deleted by Jules with the reason: who cares? tutt

it's definitely good enough for most runny noses...

the problem is the black and white thing behind it....

Your correct NS10s do not need Andrex

So to the original poster there is no need for any bog paper on your tweeters

No, your tweeter will blow itself using that type.

about 10 years ago, i used to assist an engineer who had me take two ply tissue and separate the plys so that we would only have one ply on the tweeter.

Because it is.

I used to use Marathon, I think it came from Smart and Final. I don't see it on their site, but you can probably find it online. It came in a big box of something like 54 rolls. It was what the studio stocked. Make sure the formulation is the same. Used two 2"-3" (depending on the project of course) strips of 3/4" board tape fwiw, but sometimes only one.

TP works great for this. Just make sure you have the sheets properly polarized (outside or inside of the sheet facing out on both speakers) or the HF response will twist your head off!

[this is a joke, btw]

Haha. Seriously, at what point did tissue over the tweeter become unnecessary?

The Power Station (where Clearmountain was) had a particular brand. I forget what it was but I seem to remember a green box. Other studios started stocking that brand of tissue.

Im surprised Joe Sat has anything worth nicking... He's a guitarist not a musician imo... Of course his 'music' is not as bad as steve vai's

Pink sounds much warmer than the blue. Of course, this would be expected.

It does give me an evil idea for a boutique niche company. One box of Kleenex (slightly modified by a top secret, proprietary procedure) could be worth $500 plus S&H.heh
