Akg c451 eb

I just bought a old AKG C451 EB with PSU for $200.

I need a mic like this and thought it was a good deal.

Now, tell me is it a good deal?

And what to use this mic on? Acustic guitar maybe.

Great deal IMHO.
Great on acoustic GTR, Hi Hat, and Vocals just to name a few.
Congrats...

Its a good deal,....if it works. I got my pair for 500. Theyve been way more than that lately.
Use it anywhere you need a condenser. Mine go on anything from overheads and Hi hat to acoustic instruments.

Not bad, assuming a CK1 capsule in decent shape. To me, they're the SM57 of the SDC world...just nicer

Congrats! (welcome to the club?) ---------------- Now playing: Bob Dylan - Dirt Road Blues via FoxyTunes

I love this mic. I have the one with a ck1 capsule. I even use it on vocals at times.

I really don't know much about it. The guy I bought it from had only used a little bit, as a mic for some sort of video camera.

Looking foreward to try it out.

Nice windscreen...

Sounds like an excellent deal to me, especially as it has the optional metal windshield as well.

I still have one in my kit somewhere (but mine is the nickel finish version).

That is the CK5 capsule, which is essentially the sought-after CK1 with a metal windscreen around it.
Good score!

Cool. I'm getting excited here, can't wait to try it out.
The CK5 capsule, as I just learned, should be in good shape since it's used just a few times.

In fact, this is my first AKG mic!

Thanks for the info guys!

I got it today. Tested it a bit as well. Came with a strange tabel stand and a old strange rubber shock mount. And the shock mount fitted on a mic stand! Cool.

Tried it on acustic guitar - it sounded great! Warm, Nice and open.

Sounded good on vocals as well, the windscreen worked well.

At $200 this mic is a steal.

OLD AKG C451 EB - good mic.

I personally find the CK5 a bit bright, and I sold mine years ago. On the other hand, I made a really nice recording of an accordion player doing Cage, Satie and other classical stuff with just two of those (not my own)...

So if you like the sound, then it's definitely a good catch.
If you come across one with the rare CK 3 hypercardioid capsule, grab it, that's a good one...
