1 stupid question :

choosing the right clock imporves the soundquality , i already heard that by myself but ...
will there be a difference if i record

1) without an external clock

and hook up the clock later on ? ( rent one f.ex )

or does the clock effect the recording process as well ??? ( of course it changes the overall sound but does it effect the recorded files as well or will it be the same if i hook up the clock later on ???)
does every interface or digital device really need its own clock output ???
with a clocking device i switch the interfaces to external sync , right ?! what happens to the other digital stuff like cd players , dats , etc without the possibility to have a wordclock in ?

I'm not an expert on digital, but the people who are that I have talked to about this say that clocking only effects the A/D or D/A conversion stages. I'm not sure how it helps a purely digital signal. Perhaps helping to keep it bit or sample accurate? Maybe someone in the know can help.
