"How's that sucker sound?"

I agree! Someone report on the sound.
I've been dreaming about this piece all night.

If it sounds killer then I'm going in debt for it.
Sweeeeeeetttttttt........

I've known Peter for about 10 years, and I can certify that he is truly a mad genius. I have one of his monitor consoles, and it sounds...well, it doesn't sound. Best volume knob I ever had. And it looks like a Fairchild. It is the first thing people notice when they come in the studio, and yet unnoticed when we are listening.

And he can kick your ass in Halo, too...

i finally got a chance tonight to do a little recording. my god these things are great. i have a full band recording session wednesday and thursday and i'll wait to do a more in depth review then. i will say a few things....jeff at vintage king has been nice enough over the last couple of years to let my try tons of different mic pres and other pieces of gear and the shadow hills stuff has instantly blown me away more then any thing else.
with that said, i'll wait until ive done a full session to give a full review, but i just wanted to let the curious people know that these sound absolutely incredible and highly recommended. the price is absolutely absurd. very open with beautiful mid range detail and tight low mids and low end. very very classic sounding. i recorded a singersongwriter tonight (acoustic gtr and vox) and needed no eq at all. if you like the production of the early to mid 70's you will absolutely love these. (or bypass the transformers for an uncolored sound, which i'll probably never do....)

i must also say that i have nothing to do with shadow hills. i was in the market for a 8 channel side car and got very lucky and got one of the first units. if anyone wants to pm me with more specific questions, please feel free. i'll report by the end of the week with a full review......

That thing just has to sound good.

I can`t imagine something looking that great on the outside and not having super high quality guts as well.

I may have to buy one soon before they double the price.

I have a question about the compressor, are the two different compressor types in series or parallel?

Cheers

Why haven`t you clowns noticed this thread yet ???

I leave the boards alone for a while to get some work done and this thread allmost slips through unnoticed !!!

Some Slutz you all are.....

heh

I think I`m going to buy one !

The dealmaker is going to be the transformerless setting I think because if that`s on the cleaner side the unit will have enough colors in it to justify having 8 of the same pres.

YEAHHH !!!

Hi Tim,
Yes the Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor cosists of two channels of discrete vcas, followed by optical compressor limiter circuits, utilizing T4B's, Then discrete opamps and transformers for make up gain. All mastering grade. It's five rack spaces.
Thanks,
Peter Reardon

Peter at Shadow Hills is currently building me a custom 8 channel GAMA that I will be picking up at AES. It is outfitted with a 5 positiion switch (instead of the standard 3 position) and it will have 7 output transformer options split amongst the 8 channels. It should be on display at the Shadow Hills booth at AES.

This thing is so over the top! I feel super slutty!

The custom GAMA is configured like this:

β€’ The standard nickel and steel configuration on all 8 channels
β€’ All 8 channels will have the St. Ives transformer option.
β€’ 8 channels to be split evenly between UTC & Quad 8 transformers.
β€’ 8 channels to be split evenly between transformerless & a set of Western Electric transformers.

7 tonal options between the 8 channels.....
