O.K. Everyone, largely due to the ADAM-ites of you I thought I'd go and have a listen to these fantastic monitors just to see what all the fuss was about. And I must admit that I was very impressed indeed. So impressed in fact that when my dealer offered me to borrow them for a couple of weeks I immediately got the plastic out and did the dirty almost without thinking.

Due to my budget I was mainly interested in the S2A's although I *really* wanted the S3a's. Now whether Mr. West London gear pusher was just 5 steps ahead of me OR they really didn't have any 2's I might never know, but the fact remains that in front of me while I type this stands a pair of S3A's. He probably WAS more cleverer than me :-)

My impressions so far (coming from a Genelec 1030/1092 combo and NS10's):

Incredible low mid detail. I do a lot of guitars and on the ADAM's it is much easier to judge the 'weight' of crunchy guitars against everything else. Also the low end: bass and bass drum are actually two different instrument - who would have thought that... Very good detail on reverb tails and suchlike - for instance I can judge the size of smaller drums rooms much better than on the Gen's.

Only criticism so far is that I actually find them a little bit more tiring or fatigue'ing in the high end than the Gen's but then again I was running the Gen's at -2 in the high and the ADAM's flat so that possibly accounts for that...?

The question now is: How much of a step-down are the S2A's compared to the 3's mainly in regards to the things I pointed out above. I am generally not monitoring at very loud levels and if the only difference is a couple of hertz I might be able to live with that. However, I would like to be able to do the odd mastering 'job' so where does that leave me. Please help me out - it was you that got me in this mess in the first place

thanks all the same, though... they DO sound great.!!
