Focusrite ISA 110.....worth having? (another)

I've got an opportunity to buy a second ISA 110 for relatively cheap. We own one already but had picked it up weeks before the old studio was shut down, so I didn't have a chance to really work out on it. I thought the EQ was cool....we got it super cheap.
Anyone else used one? own one?
I figured if the price was right , having a pair couldn't hurt.

I wouldn't mind having a pair of them around. It's a workhorse pre and EQ. You'll probably find lot's of uses for them. I always like having pairs of things. There are very few things I'd want only one of, I think EQ's should always come in pairs.

I love the ISA 110 on a number of things. If you don't want it, let me know.

The pots get crackly with age, not so much intermittant agrivation, just when adjusting... IMHO

Run some audio through it if you can to see if it's pisses you off.

I got one when they first came out and I've always loved it. It's a fine pre and the eq is very usable. As Jules says though, check if the pots are crackly, if so, forget it. I paid around Β£700 to get all pots replaced! Focusrite really made it a big deal and I never forgave them for that. In fact, I first sent it back to the factory, and it came back with the same problems, then I got a tech who ordered all the pots and did the job himself. Still, if I had no other pre, I'd be happy to cut everything through an ISA.

Are we talking about the old console modules, or the re-release?

I've got a couple of the ISA 110LE's, there's lots of uses for them. I consider it a "in between" pre, not terribly colored, but not totally clean. Works great when the Neve isn't quite right, but neither is a Grace.

I've had a pair of 110 Limited Edition rack units for years, without crackly pots. I dig the pre and EQ, and the filters are great. I don't dig the way the EQ gain knobs spring back to unity when you try to boost or cut a small amount, like 1 dB.

IMHO the 215 is a work of art, shame they are no longer making this kind of quality

I used to use 2 in my vocal chain..

Singer
Mic (whatever sounded good)
mic pre (whatever sounded good)
line in on ISA to use eq & filters
UA 1176 limiter
line in on ISA to use eq & filters
DBX 902 de-esser
To recorder (at that time 2" tape)

I found this great for recording 'strident' female vocals.. + pretty much all vocals actually.

That set up allows for 4 chances at nasty mid frequency removal at very narrow "Q" setting and 2 chances at putting back in warmth and 2 chances at adding HF "sheen" / polish...

I used that set up for about 3 years...

the dual click stop + the (knob) fader level controls are VERY handy to control optimum levels though the various bits of outboard down the chain and to the recorder..

Give that a try if you get 2..

I've always wondered what the difference is between the isa110le versions and the origs. They have the same transformers and supposed circuit. Does anyone know the specifics?
