Anybody ever heard a Bryston BMP-2 mic preamp?
Has anyone actually used Bryston's all-discrete, transformer-balanced dual mic preamp, the BMP-2?

It certainly looks interesting, and it's been around for a while, but I haven't seen one in a studio, and they're not menitoned much.

Is this a sleeper or a snore?

the Professional Monitor Company (PMC) uses those in their active monitors, and they're rather good.

uh... microphone preamplifiers in active monitors?

Indeed, Bryston power amplifiers are good, but I'm wondering if anyone's used the mic preamp (?)

Bryston pres
Haven't used them in a couple of years, but I seem to remember them being quite snappy, and an excellent source of phantom power.
Sort of like a Precison 8 with more HP & impedance choices.

Just resurrecting this thread as a public service announcement, as I see there's one of these on ebay for stupid cheap.

Its a clean pre with very high headroom, runs on +-24V.
Uses same amp blocks used in their other truly high end Line pre amps ect...
Will not find many around, which does NOT mean it's NOT a GREAT Pre...
It was a Balanced Pre from input to output, therefore it has a little more noise than other pres that do NOT use 4 discrete class A amp blocks...

Can't answer that. But I can tell you from personal experience that gear that's every bit as good as the popular stuff (Neve, API, Neumann etc.) but lesser known is always tougher to resell and set a value for, due to the smaller market.

If it were me, I'd make (or not) a trade based on the value you will get from using it, not what you might get out of it monetarily.

I appreciate the comments. I dont agree with the last paragraph however. I dont have alot of the same gear that I had 5 years ago so turning into other gear(potentially) is paramount.

No that's exactly what I mean, the Bryston is probably not a great purchase if you will want to turn it over. I'm saying it's theoretically a better purchase, at a fair price, if you know you want it for the long haul.

If you are concerned about resale get something very well known.
