convertor choices for mix upgrade, choices please
I'm looking to improve my current mixplus system, instead of upgrading to HD.

Anyone has some good ideas for a convertor choice. 16 AD/DA.
I have 2x 888 (16 bit) so I can use the AES/EBU.

Or do you think it is a waste of money, and should I go the HD way ?

I am staying with Mix for the moment... I have Prism converters, but I got mine cheaply in a deal, they are expencive!

I'm actually looking at the Apogee AD16 and DA16 units. They seem like a great converter upgrade, and some people I've talked to like these better than the Digi 192 converters. The Apogees will take AES, Lightpipe and TDIF.

Have a look at RME ADI8-Pro's. If you get an ADAT Bridge for your Mix system you can tap a couple of these on the back to get 16I/O's. There's a good technical review comparing them to AD8000's on:

The whole thing would cost you under £3k.

The Apogee's are great! And they have the soft limit option, which also sound great.

Take a look at the Kronauer stuff. It's dead cheap, sounds good (better that 888's) and they can build what ever you like including format conversion.

So, what about those German converters??? They're $700 euros for 8 ch A/D/A... the price is excelent... how about the sound quality? It is spec wise rated under even the RME stuff...
