NEW MAZCS

since I don't get any further on the DUC.....

What do you guys think.
Buying a 2003 G4 or a 2002 version.
I got a confirmation from apple that they can factory install 0S9, dunno about the price for this option.
But I'm more interested in the different specs on cache etc....
this is chinese to me. rollz

Do you want to run OS9, or OSX exclusively? What's your budget range? If you want the best and fastest machine that will run both operating systems, then you'll have to get the 1.25GHz Dual. You could go for the 1.42GHz machine if you only wanted OSX, but by far, the best value right now is the 1.25. It'll run both operating systems which is good until every possible plugin is available for OSX. This CPU will be awesome until Apple switches CPU architecture later this year. By that time, everything will be OSX, and the speed bump will completely blow all the current machines away.

Yes, the 2003 1.25GHz model is just like the 2002 - fan noise problem and all.

Really, with the 03's, aren't Apple claiming to have quietened them down some?

damn,
but no one can give me a clear answer .
Is it possible to have the 2003 models Os9 factory installed.?
If not, can pt 5.3 then run under classic mode ?

From what I understand there is no 2003 Powermac that will run os9. Apple is selling a 2002 1.25 model for $500 more that will boot both 9 and X on their website.
You will need full OS9 to run protools.
Hope this helps,
daniel

Andre, I'm still making up my mind what I'm going to do, but for $1700 or so for a used 1 gig on ebay, thats a pretty good bang for the buck
I have a quicksilver 733 that does fine for Protools, I was looking at a faster machine more for video and dvds, but I'm doing mostly audio right now so, I can wait
peace

Just HD - I traded in or sold all my Mix stuff.

(Although I do still have a Digidesign (Magma) 13 slot pci expansion chassis - just sitting there lonely.)

The new macs are quieter.

Apple has made a virtually free upgrade available for the older macs that quiets them down, upon request.

Bought a brandnew "old" version last thursday. On friday apple announced a free update for the silent powersupply . free means an extra 22$ for the shipping. I guess If I bought the same mac on monday, then It was incorporated in the price.heh

c'mon Andre don't you feel the call of the "pavΓ©"?

I think I'll wait til the next round of processors also before buying a new machine here at home and after last years fun and games waiting for plugins for HD (which shelved a couple of projects for months) I'm waiting til they're all done and things slow down in June to make the switch to 6 at the studio.

After 2 months of remodeling a 90 yr old house and moving the family I've dug myself a giant whole full of work that I won't get caught up on til June anyway.

We haven't had a winter to speak of here in Colorado but this ****ing house has kept me off the bike since December So much for returning to mtn bike racing this yr... I'd been looking forward to being the "kid" (at 45) in the masters cat.
