I need analog outs. Whats the best way to achieve this on a budget

I currenty own an HD2 system with a 192 I/O interface.

The time has come for me to completely stop mixing in the box. I've had enough of fighting with the mixes.

So what I want to do is buy a console (probably an old Neve 80) and expand my interfaces so that I have 2 fully loaded 192's with 16 analog outs on each interface which should be enough until I can raise the cash for another interface. I may need more than 32 analog outs eventually

However I noticed this post from Jules

[QUOTE]An option for more outputs on a budget might be Apogee DA16's fed from a Digital only HD interface. "Digi i/o" You could get your rig to output 40 ch with two of each. 96k too![QUOTE]

I wasnt aware that I could use other manufacturers interfaces with Digi HD gear.

Would the above quote work out cheaper for me.

Or does anyone else have any other suggestions.

The DA16 has both lightpipe and AES in.

Its around $2500-$2700. Factor that in with a all Digital 192 and the price is $4.5K.

One analog 192 used is around $2.5K. Throw in another D/A breakout card and it goes up to $3.5K. You save $1k. To me that is still cheaper and you can still go up to 192 for whatever reason.

The HD 192 is still one of the most nice sounding cost effective solutions around.

Do you mean along side and connected to PT's. IS this possible?

I was considering the same just a bit ago. I did the math and the adding another 192 and expansion D/A was the route I took. I have 40 channels of analog going out to my console via 3 192s. 2 of them are loaded with the D/A expansion and I leave the last one for digital in/outs for effects and stuff.

I am pretty pleased with the 192 convertors. I would love to hear them against the RADAR convertors though.

Take care.

Looks like I will just get another 192 then.

However, Mike can you elaborate on your setup. I'm not familiar with Radar.

Cheers
