BMI confusion

Hello slutz, Im thinking about joining BMI....but I am completely in the dark about it. I kinda understand joining as a writer, but someone once told me that I should join as a publisher as well.

ARRRGGHHH! What does it all mean?

There is ASCAP to consider as well...

I have a chum at ASCAP UK... so I like them better!

BMI/ASCAP. What is the difference? Is it like Coke/Pepsi? What is a good reason for one over the other?

Inquiring minds want to know.

You can join BMI as a writer and still collect your publishing royalites without joining as a publisher. You can also join as a writer and publisher if you wish. I'm a member as a writer only, but also collect my royalties as a publisher on my own works. If you have a publishing company, then of course you would join as a writer and publisher.

Hey Albert, thanks. Did you pay a fee for joining? Are there dues? How did you recieve royalties?(TV, movies, radio?)
