Next step up from RNC... I want creamy colored goodness...
Ok, the RNC is clean and does its trick well... but I now find myself wanting something that brutally colors the sound in a gooey tasty way. I love the way the Focusrite Red colors the sound, it kinda makes it sound creamy, if you will. What is a good next step from the RNC that isnt too expensive? I'm guessing there isnt anything much in the $800 range, huh? Are there any old DBX's or anything that just happen to be killer for coloring up some vocals? Any good 1176 ripoffs?
Thanks!
I was kinda wondering if the Focusrite Compounder is a good sounding unit. According to them, it is based on the Red Compressor, which I like very much.
ANyone used it?
Have you listened to the Joe Meek SC2.2v4? If you're just after "color" one of these may do the trick for not alot of dough. Might be worth checking out. If you wan't a "Swiss Army" kinda thing the Distressor is a must but even used these go for around a grand for the most part.
I don't know if I'd call it a step up from the RNC, except in terms of price, but the Meek SC2.2v4 certainly puts out some very useful stomp all over whatever you feed into it. For brand new stereo compressors, there ain't much else out there under a grand.
