tracking drums in small room

Jules -

I just recently finished mixing my PT recorded project with Jay Kahrs and he mentioned to me that your studio space is about as small as mine (two 12x12 rooms with really low - 6 ft - ceilings). He mentioned that you do drum tracking at your place and I was interested to find out how you approach it.

I'm guessing from Jay's explanation of your room, there isn't really any experimentation allowed for placing the kit in the room. What has your experience taught you as far as overheads and a room mic go? Do you ever have a problem with too much hi-hat? Do you attempt to get any room ambience in the recordings or try to make it as dry as possible?

Thanks,

- neil
