Cylinders - Then tape - then DAW - what next?

Will we always be staring at screens for the rest of our lives?

At one point, I thought i'd spend my life threading tape...

What will be the revolution that will knock out staring at waveforms - is there a better way of seeing/not seeing this stuff? Do you really WANT to see it?
When we're past 192k and into the stratosphere, then what? We can't just keep sticking more speakers up - where's that going? And when we've got a trillionk recording of all the music ever engraved on the side of a proton, then what?

C'mon, let's hear your ideas about the next revolution - what will we be using when we're all sitting down talking about the days when we mixed in 7.1 and used DAW's? Will we have electrodes than plug into your head and you can recreate sounds in ways OTHER than shaking a bit of air?

I dunno - where's it all going? What's the next 'leap' going to be?

While there's no doubt that digital keeps getting better I think it's still a ways off from being amazing. Tape is also far from dead, I still thread the decks almost everyday and the DAW gets used mostly for burning CD's and transfers. Personally, I'd love to see systems like the Rader and MX2424 become compatible with each other to the same degree that 2" 24 is. Once that happens and the decks are as widespread as 2" you can start putting the last nails into the tape coffin. Until then I'll keep smellin' fresh reels.

Hard dicks without moving parts. They're making a RADAR with this option.

I'm not sure where to begin with this one...

Is this that Tantric Sex thing that Sting's into...?

Or does it have something to do with William Burroughs/Steely Dan...?

Or

A Freudian dream sequence...?

Actually, it's funny how often this 'typo' occurs...

It was a 'typo', right...?

Just checkin'...

I think most hard dicks have a Radar of their own.

Hey Tantric sex is cleaner, at least! Why am I not surprised that someone who used to rock with the best of 'em now writes elevator music, does Jag commercials, and is afraid to stick his pecker into an orifice and move it around? What a fool.
