I would really appreciate it if anybody could point me towards some records that were cut or, better yet, MIXED on the the 9098i that I could get my hands on to listen to.
No real agenda besides genuine curiosity about whether the desk has an "Identifiable Sound" of some sort.
...
PS. *Disclaimer* I have mixed some records on the 9098i and often imagined/felt like I was the ONLY guy on the planet doing so with any degree of frequency.
Yes, it has a certain sound (doesn't all af the *big* consoles have some characteristic "things" in their sound ?).
It is extraordinarly strong and at the same time precise in the low end (maybe - and it's not easy for me to admit! - even a *little* more than the Harrison...!).
Listen to all of Booya Music Germany's productions. They started off with a Mozart and soon installed a 9098i. Many internationally acclaimed productions also, e.g. Sarah Connor's "Bounce", Hande Yener's "Apayri", Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, Fun Factory etc.
If you do a rough mix on this damn thing just about everyone thinks the mix was already finished...
EQ's are not quite as good (means: clean) as on a Harrison though and sometimes a little difficult to use (as the whole desk is a bit of a challenge due to its sheer monstrosity when you sit in front of it...). Preamps are good enough to use em for
everything. Find a desk of which you can say that !
Regarding your Disclaimer:
Yes 9098i is one of the few things in life where you can *feel* that it is somewhat ahead of the competition, resulting in that in effect it places it
outside the competition. Same with Harrison or Porsche - you just feel good and ahead of the rest.
Sure, it's purely psychoFX :-) - but don't we love exactly this ?
We all started this about the fun.
Feeling good in the end IS what makes us do our work better !
