I don't have the schematics handy but I know there's 3 12ax7's a 6072a and a 6aq5 in there. Are the tubes not labeled in any way?

yeah but I pulled it months ago because it was noisy and stuck a 12ax7 in it which really sounds good to me..but I believe the correct tube is something with less gain. Thanks I'll take a look again later.

Well check and see if you still have a 6072 and a 6aq5 in there, if you do then you know you've got the right tube in the right socket. I'm assuming if you wanted something with less gain though you could swap the 12ax7's for 12au7's.

I am in the process of changing out my tubes in my LA-610 as well. I lost gain, so I replaced the 12ax7's with some old ones I had from a guitar amp. Got gain back, so that enabled me to isolate my issue was in fact related to the tubes. So I'm planning on replacing all the tubes. I called UA and depending on the serial number (year made), one of the tubes is different. The cost from UA to replace all tubes ranges from $110.00 - $160.00 depending on that one tube. I'm figuring on going that route, but I’ve seen other post suggesting ditching the stock tubes and going with something else. So, if it's something else, then what and why?
