If you record on multiple tracks, increase fidelity? tape

Since the wider the track width means the more fidelity, I was wondering if you were using an 8 track machine like the Fostex M80, and you sent the same signal to record on 4 of it's channels, would there be an increase fidelity and less signal to noise ratio?
Thanks

ie guitar instead of being sent to channel one, being sent to channel one, two, three and four.
