Hmmmm. Speak for yourself, I guess.

I have a WA14 that was on drum overhead duty for a bit, but Sony C38a's won out in that position. I tried it on my vocals, and it was not the right mic for me. Acoustic guitar, yes. Anything that makes noise, it's going to be useful.]

For me, not the centerpiece of my little basement studio. But useful, I'm hanging on to it.

I've played and recorded a lot of drums since that day... And I just had a landmark birthday.

Landmark? You're switching over to the geologic calendar? Probably for the best.

Also... Happy Epoch!

Too soon for the geologic calendar, young man.

Not too early for the hexadecimal count. Happy 32nd!

I have both a modern akg 414 and the wa 414. I have used many variation of vintage akg 414s. To my ears it sits right in the middle. I like it on baritone male vocals. Drum overheads in standard tuning. And acoustic guitar if ots not too bright. There really is no this one is better than that one. You just have to figure out where it works best.

I have a WA14 and use it for vocals and Acoustic guitar. I like the way it sounds with the Lindell 50 series.

I’d give you a thumbs up for this one but you’re on my ignore list.

Hey!

I know this is an old thread, but I've been using the WA-14's for around 2 years or so. I've got a stereo pair that have been my dedicated drum overhead mics since the moment I received them. I've tried handfuls of other pairs, Rode, AKG, Oktava, etc., and these dudes are just..... RIGHT. I've never used the original C414 that they are supposedly modeled after, so I can't speak as to whether they achieved that or not. But I absolutely love these microphones.

They shine on drum overheads, as I've mentioned, but they are also incredible for capturing heavy guitar tone. Well, any guitar tone, really. I just happen to specialize in heavy. One of these guys blended with an SM57/Unidyne 57 is just.... *chefs kiss*. Highly, highly recommend.

You can hear examples of these in the context of a full production here:

https://nocturnal.media/work

Overhead mics on most of the tracks in this playlist are the WA-14s, as well as blended into these guitar tones in some way or another. Some are more WA14 than 57.

Did some vocal recordings with the wa14 and was very pleased with the results. Great mic for its price.

NOT a good mic.
Not sure why you're saying "Not a good mic". I find it to be better than mics costing twice as much (AT4050 for instance). Can you elaborate?

Old thread but I'll chime in never the less.
This is a single WA14 as you can see. For acoustics I love these mics, always take eq well, never harsh and just seem to do great.
Have used them extensively for OH's and guitar cabs, always with good results.
