The Amphion amp100 & amp500 use Anaview AMS0100 & AMS1000 modules respectively.

Has anyone compared these with the reigning heavy-weight of this segment the Hypex Ncore?

On paper the Ncore looks better, but paper doesn't always translate to the real world. Thanks!

Interesting topic. Recently been switching between a Parasound a21 A/B amp and the Amphion 500. While the Parasound sounds huge and big and flat. There is a speed in the top half of the spectrum that feels faster and clearer in the Amphion 500.

What are people experiences with amps and Amphions? I would love the speed of the Amphion top end and the deep and clear bass of the Parasound at the same time.

The AMS series distortion vs frequency graph is a but troubling, only offering performance equivalent to 15bit PCM at it's best (at 1kHz) ..

Besides, can you really trust someone who can't spell "Parallel"?

Not sure where zmix gets the 15bit equivalence from but the Benchmark amp produces substantially less noise and THD than the Amphion.

THD+noise is about -94dB for the Amphion and -113dB for the Benchmark or in percentages Amphion 0.002% vs Benchmark 0.0002%.
Come to think of it this is where he got it from because an ideal 16bit system gives -96dB and the Amphion does not quite achieve this under one set of conditions according to your thumbnail.
In other circumstances it reaches nearly -100dB.

My own heavy and quite standard class AB amps do -108dB but the Benchmark has moved the goalposts for amps.
Interesting design from what I gather it is a class H current dumper.

I'd be interested in the Benchmark but my mains are active so I would need at least 3 but probably 4 of them (100W is a bit meager) and at a list price of $3000 each it quickly adds up to too much.

However were I to use passives (never gonna happen) and only needed one stereo amp I'd either go for the Hypex nCore modules for a few hundreds or go all out for the Benchmark.
The Amphion is a bit of a nowhere thing. Not cheap enough to choose over Hypex, not good enough to compete with Benchmark.

Hopefully I get another ten years out the amps I already have. :-)

That graph looks very good..! It is from the OEM datasheet, and it looks much better than the measurement I saw of a third party implementation.

There is a strange bump in the THD+N between 3 and 100 watts where it increases to 0.02% ( -74dB roughly equivalent to the noise floor of 12 bit audio).

None of these niggles really matter anyway, there isn't a transducer made that has less than .01% THD+N (and the one that does is a $60K headphone driver!)

I'm happy to see that there is some competition in the Class D world, my attitude is similar to O.F.F., In fact I do have a Hypex nCore based amp that I use now, it's so good I never think about it, really.. and if I change it would be to the Benchmark.

This answer sadly does not compare to the Anaview.

However, I also have recently bought from Apollon Audio (nc500-based monoblocks with Sonic Imagery discrete opamp buffers) and I can attest to their sound quality. Extremely detailed, total transparency (they have a character, due to the opamp, but this can be changed to suit the rest of your system by rolling the opamps and/or the internal signal wiring), extremely good imaging, excellent bass control.

To my ears (trained composer, even though I moved to a VERY different career) they are much better than other amps I have listened or tested with the same loudspeakers, including NAIM (NAC 32.5 + NAP 140), Abrahamsen (v30UP+v40UP), Teddy Pardo i80, Lavardin IS... one cannot go wrong, unless they want a very specific character.

It's been a year now, are you satisfied with it? May I ask what monitors are those driving?
