Other Everyday Uses for Studio Gear

Hi, I always Hand-D-Mag my slacks before an engagement...Keeps the Press! Also degaussing sweaters does wonders for dog fur static cling. We all know certain EV mics make excellent hammers, and high-end consoles make great busy-boxes for when you have to play Day care provider...Please share your warranty voiding secrets.

Less heating bill when you are in Scotland.

That's why I'm sticking to analog gear. Plug-ins are just...

...cold.

You know...

Pull the capsule from an old Reslosound ribbon mic and fill the body with salt.
Looks great on the dinner table.

A Blackface ADAT or DA88 makes a very solid doorstop.

Hmm, and I thought it didn't get any better for a doorstop than a Alesis compressor!

Other uses? Well...

I use my Commodore 64 to play some vintage computer games when I'm not making Sid music with it, and am bored (you can play Pong on a Kurzweil K2000 also if you're ever in a rut)

My main studio computer gets double duty as a computer for photography work as of recent.

And I use my studio monitors to listen to vinyl normally as they are the best thing I have in the house that's working well.

And of course, when I was in Boston... who needed a heater?

Oh, and I can use my Minimoog to call my cat... she likes high pitched noises.

When I was younger, a friend of mine always used the pitch changer in my SPX-90 to crank call people as Satan (-12 semitones with ~25% feedback did the trick). heh

An SM57 makes for both a great hammer and weapon.

-As i helped a friend who learned in the SAE to track some bass, we put the pizza box on the neve to keep it warm...took some pics, of course and made sure we didn't get caught.
-Used a 800 $ floor tom as a wastebasket (top drumhead off)
-Used a 1973 Orange amp as a door stop - the thing had a serious hum anyway.
-Used a Manley vox/eq como as a paperweight for some months because the VU was broken
-the drummer in the band i was in the 90s had a empty SM58 shell for his...supplies.
-we filled a Jack Daniels bottle with concrete and glued a mic clamp on top to use as a kick micstand - does that count?
