Time for another odd time signature listening day. Of course Rush is all over that list.

the instrumental break in Blondie's "Heart of Glass" - I love that they stuck a 7 in the middle of a disco song!

Blockhead by Devo - okay, not a hit. But fun.

Pretty much the bridge to every Rush song except for Fly By Night...


And I don't know if it's odd meter or just odd timing, but the whole breakdown in Rufus's "Tell Me Something Good" slays me every time... Is the entire song on off-beats that switch to on-beats during the break, or is it the other way around? Either way, I can drum my way through most Rush, Genesis and Yes, but that half beat in "tell me Something Good' trips me up every time!!! (yes, I am white, but I'm trying to fight it. )

last year i recorded a song in 29/8 (3x 7/8 +1x 4/4)... really cool one too... but i had to listen to it many times before actually understanding the meter, counting wasn't that hard really but improvising on it was... but after a while i started thinking inside the meter...the brain is a really cool thing ...
